BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The CVS Health Charity Classic teed off Sunday, though rain cancelled the morning session and abbreviated the afternoon group.
The afternoon session did get underway but only for nine holes. Officials said the main objection was to make sure the course was in the best possible shape for the main events on Monday and Tuesday.
But the rain didn’t keep the golfers away.
“I hadn’t been, in quite a few years, to Rhode Island. I love being here, I love the state,” said Webb Simpson, the 2012 U.S. Open Champion. “Finally my schedule allowed for me to be here, so it’s great to be here.”
