Buildings Reportedly Evacuated, Road Closed After Fire In Manhole In Old City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Some area buildings have reportedly been evacuated and crews are on the scene after an underground fire in Old City.

The call first came in about smoking manholes at 2nd and Walnut in Old City around 10:45 a.m.

PECO responded to the scene, where they found a fire on the ground due to underground wires burning.

Several buildings have apparently been evacuated and 2nd Street is closed off between Market and Walnut Street due to the fire.

A power outage has also been reported in the area.
